Adaptable email to manager or waste officer about starting new waste initiatives

Hi [Manager/Waste officer name],

I/[Names of other interested coworkers] would like to help find cost effective solutions to minimise our waste and recycle more at work. Planet Ark has recently released a toolkit for organisations like ours, alongside their BusinessRecycling.com.au website and hotline, making it quicker and easier for us to find recycling options for our workplace.

The National Waste Report 2020 shows Australian businesses still send 44% of their waste to landfill equalling 9.6 million tonnes of lost opportunity. Most commercial waste is readily recyclable, so sending it to landfill is not only a waste of resources, it may also be a cost-ineffective option for our organisation.

With your permission, I propose to set aside a maximum of [number] hour(s) a week to:
1. Investigate which waste streams are costing us most and find a recycling or reuse alternative, using the BusinessRecycling.com.au free toolkit
2. Implement new recycling systems using Planet Ark's signage and communication tools
3. Promote our proactive new recycling systems to customers with Planet Ark's posters and social media resources

Please let me know when you'd be available to discuss further if required.

Thanks,

Adaptable email to co-workers about reusable paper trays

Hi everyone,

I/[Names of other interested coworkers]?have been working on a simple way to reduce our waste and recycle more at work.

I/We?have arranged a new reusable paper tray?which is located?at/near [location e.g. the printer] below/above this sign.
[insert screenshot of the?sign?and any other necessary details underneath]

You can now use single side printed paper for printing internal documents and/or making notes. Choosing to reuse paper sheets is one of the easiest ways to save paper, reduce our environmental footprint and ensure paper is fully used before being recycled.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to join me/the recycling/green team for more activities!

Thanks,

Adaptable email to staff about worm farming

Hi everyone,

I/[Names of other interested coworkers] have been working on a simple way to reduce our waste and recycle more at work.

More than half of commercial waste is organic material (e.g. food, paper, and wood), so I/we have arranged a worm farm in the kitchen for our food scraps and paper food wrapping. Here's the sign for it:

Planet Ark's 3 minute video provides a little more info about why we're bringing worms to work!

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to join me/the recycling team.

Thanks,
